He started composing poems at a young age of ten. His poems were published since 1990, in 'Mathrubhumi Balapamkthi' (then editor being Kunhunni Mash), a recurrent column for children in the well-known Malayalam weekly Mathrubhumi.
In 1998, he won the prestigious Mathrubhumi award for the best young poet in Malayalam. This served as a turning point, as a more somber and matured poet emerges post this. He won the second accolade for the Malayala Manorama story writing contest in the same year.
The poem 'Mayiru' written by Rupesh Paul, published in the Malayalam magazine Vayana (it is not published anymore), evoked a good deal of censure and controversy among the young poets and literary critics. 'Mayiru' is a colloquial swear word which signifies ‘pubic hair'.
Rupesh Paul published his first anthology of poems in Malayalam- Penkutti Oru Raashtramaanu”' (“A Girl, a nation it is”)in 1988 (published by DC Books.[1] It became an unprecedented success that the second edition was brought out in 30 days.It bagged the Changampuzha Award for the Best Young Poet.[2]
"...Only a mosquito can die for an idea.
Each mosquito is killed
For a charming idea
Like,
An uninterrupted sleep,
An Unmediated fuck
Or
A sleep that leaves no marks behind
Only a hideous creature can die for an idea."

From "Poetry", “Penkutti Oru Raashtramaanu” (“A Girl, a nation it is”)[3](1998)
He is also credited with the first cyber venture in Malayalam with his short story titled Drakulayude Ezhaamathe Vadhu”' (Seventh Bride of Dracula).
He wrought, owned and managed the first ever e-book in Indian vernacular languages: “Mashithandu.com”

“For poetry, the era walks with Rupesh. His poems with the corrosive strength of their visions and utterances of love astound every reader, sows anxiety in every homophile. This poetic diction of modern times reflects the dilapidation of our culture. This poetry, even as it fosters a trifling contempt towards the ultra seriousness of modernity, camouflages an intrinsic sense of tragedy all set against post modernism.” Balachandran Chullikkadu, poet, Samakaalika Malayalam Weekly, December 24, 2004.[4]}
"The most admirable contribution from this poet, who is romantic, post modernist and existentialist at one time, is his intense love poems. Experience tells me that being a poet, a journalist and an engineer at the same time is a combination which the society is not comfortable with. We are in times when untalented people lament the extinction of multitalented geniuses. I have just one advice of love to offer Rupesh: Don’t ever exhibit your plume before the jealous folk. The very Sree Krishna was darted at because he had revealed his plume." Punathil Kunjabdulla, Samakaalika Malayalam Weekly, November 2004.[5]}
"The poems of Rupesh Paul address not those who read poetry for pastime. This is reason enough to believe that this poet will be crucified. If Malayalam has a young soul with fire after the times of Balachandran Chullikaad, it is here in Rupesh Paul." Charu Nivedita, Kalakaumudi, January 9, 2005.[6]}

The journalist Rupesh joined Malayala Manorama, one of the leading newspapers in India, when he was 22 and worked as a Sub-editor from 2001 to 2005.
He wrote Sunday cover stories of Malayala Manorama, for a protracted sum of time, which includes one national exclusive: revelations about the death of the naxalite leader Mathiyazhagan.[7]} He authored numerous scoops counting the investigative reports on the deaths of Azhikodan Raghavan, the former Communist Party of India (Marxist)leader and Nandita, the Malayalam poet.[8]}
He worked with India Today as a senior correspondent from 2006 to 2008.
Subsequently, Rupesh shifted his career interests to movie-making. He made his entrance to the Indian film industry with the movie My Mother’s Laptop. Following the same, he made a few short films, catering to guerilla filmmaking, under his alternative movie production company, Cinéma vérité. Later, he returned to usual studio model filmmaking with movies like the Secret Diaries of Monalisa and Saint Dracula 3D.

Saint Dracula is an upcoming 3D movie by Rupesh Paul. Produced by BizTV Network - the producers of Dam 999. Saint Dracula becomes the first ever stereoscopic 3D film to be made on the story of Dracula.[11]
Saint Dracula 3D is registered with the Motion Picture Association of America.
It was premiered at the American Film Market in California on November 2, 2011.[12]}
"My Dracula is not the archetypal king of the vampires, but a saint," says Rupesh. "An ardent lover, he sacrifices his immortality to his ladylove as a wedding gift. In the original myth, he may be vicious, but in my film, he is the catastrophic lead of a love story.",[13] says Rupesh.
The film has been shot at Liverpool and Wales in UK. Frenchman Francois Coppey does the camera, while the stereography has been done by Julian Crivelli. Sohan Roy, director of Hollywood film Dam 999 is the project designer.

My Mother's Laptop is a near perfect product for a generation who loves hardcore art house movies. Rupesh Paul, the young director of the movie, a journalist and writer, has honed his skills and begun to fulfill the promise he showed with his initial video films, through this movie. He has crafted a deceptively complex trilateral character study of maternal love, despair and unexpected compassion." India Glitz [Tuesday, July 29, 2008][14]
Laptop is never for a moment judgmental or apologetic; it doesn't ever gawk cross-eyed on its lead characters. It's an astoundingly powerful debut film from Rupesh Paul, that's vividly caught on film, terrifically acted and profoundly heartfelt. Resolutely rooted in its own convictions, it's a raw and refreshing movie that's blatantly honest and downright human."[14]
Saint Dracula 3D is absolutely different from the usual Count Dracula movies. This movie depicts the rebirth of Dracula for love and not for vengeance. The director of the movie, Rupesh Paul is trying to create a new image for the legendary antagonist, Dracula who is dignified through the movie. Unlike Bram Stroker's 'Dracula', which sends a chill through the spine, Saint Dracula portrays a different dimension of Dracula, who holds a hero figure in the nation of Romania and is christened as a saint in the Orthodox congregation of the nation." All Lights Magazine, November 2011.[15]

Rupesh Paul's upcoming project Kamasutra 3D is a period movie based on a sex manual written by arch-poet Kalyana Malla, related to the Lodi dynasty, which ruled Delhi from 1451 to 1526. Malla wrote the script in honour of Lad Khan, son of Ahmed Khan Lodi.
The original work was translated by Richard Francis Burton in 1885 and was published as Ananga Ranga.
“3D appears the best format to portray classic erotica, but it was hardly experimented till recently. It had remained as a tool to give the biggest jolt in horror movies. In the film, we are trying to give an extra dimension to the sexual positions described in the ancient treatise on the art of love, through the 3D format” Rupesh said, in an interview with New Indian Express.[16]
His short story Drakulayude Ezhaamathe Vadhu” has been developed into a novel, Saint Dracula in 2010. The recent motion picture Saint Dracula, directed by Rupesh himself,[17] is a cinematic adaptation of the same.
An English novel titled The Girls of Our Times, the much related memoirs of his love-life, is on the anvil.[18]
